Consumer Care Obligations

The Electricity Authority published the Consumer Care Obligations on 1 April 2025.

Consumer Care Obligations

Electricity is an essential part of daily life. As an electricity customer, you have the right to receive fair, consistent, and supportive service from your electricity company, and to be treated respectfully and fairly.

The Consumer Care Obligations are rules the Electricity Authority has put in place that all electricity companies must follow to help you stay connected and manage your power bills.

Your electricity company must have a consumer care policy that explains how they will meet these obligations and must publish it on their website in a place that is easy for you to locate.

Get in touch with your electricity company if you:

  • have a query or issue
  • want to make a complaint
  • need advice or information
  • need help finding their consumer care policy.

You will find your electricity company's contact details on their website and on your electricity bill.
